Ford engineer talks about new Ford electric models;

Ford's chief engineer discussed the technology that will be found in Ford's five new electric vehicles. Ford will be offering a full suite of electric vehicles to the market over the next few years. Ford currently has over 244 patents for its electrification technology. With gas prices increasing throughout the world, more and more people are becoming interested in electric vehicles. Ford will have a number of technologies in its new models including a fuel saving technology that starts and stops of the vehicle. The Auto Start Stop system will improve fuel economy for drivers by up to 4 percent and for some drivers the gain can be up to 10 percent. Tailpipe emissions will be reduced to near zero with technology while the vehicle is stationary or at a stoplight.

Another technology that will be available with the new Ford models is the HMI or human-machine interface. This involves interaction between the driver and the vehicle and is part of a number of software suites that Ford offers. Ford also offers SmartGauge and EcoGuide. A display screen shows the number of miles driven at the end of a trip as well as miles that were gained through features like regenerative braking. There is also a budget view, range view and Brake Coach which offers feedback on how to improve braking to improve battery energy performance.
